Since I have got to know Brahms' trio for violin, horn and piano in a recording of Busch, Brain and Serkin, it is one of my most loved pieces; it is own of my heart (= meinem Herz eigen).
In three "Fundstücken" (= found pieces), which are like interludes, I have tried to occupy his Adagio mesto in E-flat minor, which Brahms had composed after the death of his mother; I wanted to show (= herzeigen) tiny fragments, extended in time, almost not audible.
Since the 18. century the E-flat minor chord is a sound-symbol of death (for example in Berg's "Wozzeck" or Mahler's "3. Symphony"); it is the element which tries to connect the very different movements of my trio.
